Our Junior Program focuses on three aspects of training:

Developing the body.....Junior classes are 45 minutes long. The students attend 2 classes per week, with other children of comparable age. A class begins with a variety of warm-up exercises which may include push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, punching and kicking drills and more. We then move on to teaching the foundational movements of karate through the use of traditional forms called kata. After that we work on multiple person drills of pre-arranged punching and kicking (a very safe but effective way to practice) and some impact drills using punching or kicking pads. We end with a drill/game designed to be fun, but also to help the student learn additional fundamentals of karate and self-defense.

Developing the mind.....It's not just about the punching, blocking, running, jumping and kicking. We make it a point to talk about of our Student Creed and 8 Virtues of Black Belt. We use the STAR program (Stop, Think, Act and Review) to help teach core values. We have an Academic Superstar Program to recognize a student's effort in school. Of course, we have our Junior Black Belt program which was established to reward our students for their perseverance and dedication to the values of Uechi Ryu Karate.

Developing the spirit..... All of these aspects combined make our classes practical, educational and fun. They help each student develop great self-confidence and self-control which will enhance their ability to better deal with any situation where focus and concentration are required.
